Reading Intervention

Reading Intervention

  • Does your child struggle to master reading despite adequate instruction?

  • Do they read more slowly or more laboriously than their peers?

  • Is accurate spelling a mystery to them?

These may all be indicators that your child needs a different approach to reading. Curry Dyslexia Solutions provides reading therapy that is the extra support struggling readers need to thrive.

Research shows that struggling readers need structured, multi-sensory, systematic, and sequential instruction.

We use one of the most thorough curriculums available: Take Flight: A Comprehensive Intervention for Students with Dyslexia, developed at the Luke Waites Center for Dyslexia and Learning Disorders at the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.

The Take Flight program contains 132 lessons, along with practice days, totalling 230 hours of direct instruction and covering phonemic awareness, spelling, reading fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and phonics. Total number of hours may vary depending on the individual needs of your child.

Testimonial

"I want to thank you again for helping our son! Your knowledge and support has been invaluable and he wouldn't be doing nearly as well without you. We really saw his reading skills take off once he started working with you. He's been doing well and I've noticed he's gotten much better at reading bigger words, and that when he reads out loud it's been smoother and in more of a natural rhythm".

Dyslexia Risk Assessment is a cost-effective way to take the next step to help your child get on the right track with reading.

This package includes a parent questionnaire on your child’s health and academic history, 30 minute assessment of skills related to reading, and a 30 minute consultation to review the results.

During our meeting, we will go over normal developmental milestones for reading and discuss any potential risk factors that may be present.

Profile of Dyslexia

Comprehensive Literacy Assessment / Profile of Dyslexia

  • Would you like a complete picture of your child’s literacy skills?

  • Are you wondering if any underlying causes, such as dyslexia, may be hindering your child’s reading?

Our Comprehensive Literacy Assessment gives families a solid understanding of their child’s strengths, weaknesses, and underlying cognitive processes when it comes to reading.

This package includes a 30 minute intake interview, several hours of testing, and a 45 minute consultation to go over results. During testing, your child is assessed for key components of reading success: phonological processing, single word decoding, spelling, reading comprehension, written expression, and oral expression.

During our post-assessment consultation to review the results, you will receive a thorough written report of your child’s skills and know exactly which areas your child may be struggling in. If indicated, the report will show if your child has a profile of dyslexia. Referrals to trusted resources for next steps are included.
